Baptist Church

According to its congregation’s tradition, Buck Creek Baptist Church was founded in 1821, initially meeting under a brush arbor just east of Buck Creek, and its first sanctuary is believed to have been a log structure. Many of the early Baptist congregations in this area maintained close ties with the Cape Fear Baptist Association. The Association’s records state that Buck Creek Baptist Church was officially constituted in 1835 and reported itself as dissolved in 1856.

In 1869, Buck Creek Baptist Church was once again officially constituted within the Cape Fear Baptist Association. This re-constituted congregation’s sanctuary was located on the west side of Buck Creek. In 1935, the present sanctuary was constructed and has since undergone several renovations.
